Sonia Giavitto was born in Rome, lives and creates in Tarquinia(Viterbo). After attending the Liceo Artistico in via Ripetta when Luigi Montanarini was headmaster and having tutors of the calibre of Mario Cimarra and Nino Cordio, she enrols to the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome where she attends the lectures of Sante Monachesi and the engraving course held by Lino Banchi Barriviera. Then she enrols in the faculty of Architecture with tutors of the calibre of Quaroni, Perugini and Filiberto Menna. But the didactic experience with an engraver such as Banchi Barriviera reveals fundamental for the definite individuation in the artist of a decisive and distinctive feature, which she manifests through a significant number of paintings, executed on various materials ( canvas, cardboard, wood). Parallel to the painting language ( apart from her job and various collaborations with some architectural designers) she consolidates her sculptural language, through a first group of works which free themselves from the more classical western hangovers to project themselves towards a new informal consciousness, not devoid of the charm that the world and the oriental spirituality exercise on the artist, authentic researcher of the matter and the spirit. A long and exclusive collaboration with the Italian association of Sahaja Yoga has permitted her to express her creativity in the field of set designing and costuming for the theatrical events organised by the association, where she has been able to undertake numerous collaborations with international artists.
Great part of the works are part of private collections in Italy and abroad. In August 2000 the city council of Fermo promoted an exhibition of her works entitled: “Percorsi di Scultura” in the hall called “della Colonna”. Again in the Marche for the city council of Montegranaro (Ap), she has realised a memorial monument dedicated to Giordano Bruno http://www.giordanobruno.info/nolano/eventi2.htm and actually, for the same city council, she’s creating a series of five high-relieves and a memorial stele. The artist has recently finished a Video Art Performance on the “Alchemical Portals”, which has been exhibited for the first time in the Auditorium of Montegranaro and subsequently in various Italian theatres and universities.
In September 2007 there’s been an exhibition of her works of art in the Primo Piano Living in Lecce, and in may 2008 another exhibition will be opened in the Palazzo dei Capitani in Ascoli Piceno.
Various art critics, such as Luciano Marziano, Lucrezia De Domizio Durini, Margherita Ciampaglia and Dores Sacquegna, have examined her works of art.
